Fiber Steel

  • Fiber Steel is a material that feels like woven rug, is stronger than steel, and can be hand shaped. Once it is put through the resin process is a single nearly indestructible part.
  • It’s as thin as cardboard but as strong as steel
  • You can shape it to whatever form you want
  • So strong even the weight of a cinder block can’t crush or tear it
  • Comes in std sheets 1×1 ft , 1×3 ft ,1x 5 ft
  • It’s perfect to add to 3D printed materials, for example

3d printed Front edge riveted to a Fiber Steel fender
3d printed Front edge riveted to a Fiber Steel fender

  • Light & Strong Even Before Resin Processing

How it’s made

  • Carbon fiber and steel are blended together to give it a hand formable structure  with the strength of steel.
  • Blended Carbon fiber and low carbon steel using specialty fabrication systems

No Molds

  • Cut the sheets to your shape.
  • Bend to your designs.
  • Resin, rivet, add 3d printed parts, metal parts.
  • Capable of being riveted before and after resin processing.
  • Light & Strong even before Resin Processing

Materials Characteristics

  • Conductive- The steel used is std carbon steel this s/b noted when riveting. The rivet point will become connected to the core and any other structure penetrating the core
  • Materials sensitivity – Before resin introduction the core is moisture sensitive
  • Minimum bend radius is 2 x material thickness ~ 0.1” on the inner curve
  • Maximum flex repetition is 5 times with a  180º rotation ,at which point the core will begin to breakdown

Material Safety

  • The metal core will cut skin so gloves must be worn that are tear proof
  • Carbon Fiber can shed when shaped and unpacked, particle mask and gloves s/b used at all times
  • If machining there will be carbon fiber dust so vacuum after working is required
